Abstract
A key part of providing research computing services is the ability to manage access for groups of researchers utilizing high performance computing resources. One of the challenges that the University of British Columbia Advanced Research Computing team faced when expanding our user-base was the need to provide an easy to utilize platform for researchers to request and manage their resource allocations. In an effort to modernize our offerings the UBC ARC team looked to open-source options to suit our needs.
ColdFront is an open-source allocation management platform developed by the University at Buffalo Center for Computational Research. As part of implementing this software we extended ColdFront’s capabilities to provide automated system actions by utilizing Event-Driven Ansible (EDA). Our team developed a number of plugins to provide this functionality and contribute back to the project at large.
In this talk we will provide details around the development of the onboarding system in use by UBC ARC and how our contributions to ColdFront can help the wider field of research computing service providers.
