Sightseeing in Vancouver


While the University of British Columbia Vancouver campus has plenty of sight seeing opportunities, Vancouver has plenty of other options from nature walks to science parks to hacker spaces. Take a look at our list of other activities if you have a few days before or after the conference!

  • Stanley Park is a wonderful public park that has everything from beach front to rain forest to dining options. Pono recommends renting a bike and seeing it all!
  • If you're in the area a few days early, Vancouver Hack Space has their open house night every Tuesday from 4:30PM-9:00PM.
  • Science World is a wonderful place to explore for kids of all ages. Check out the wide-ranging interactive exhibits and catch a show at the iconic Omnimax dome!
  • Take a walk or ride around Granville Island for local shops and performances, and ride the False Creek Ferry or Aquabus from the dock to see Vancouver from a different perspective.
  • The Capilano Suspension Bridge showcases beautiful BC wilderness just across the water from Vancouver.
  • Hike up Grouse Mountain on the 853-metres-of-gain Grouse Grind or take a gondola instead, and get a beautiful view of Vancouver and other fun activities!
  • If you're a Battlestar Galactica fan, you'll see a lot of recognizable buildings in Vancouver and even at UBC. See the futuristic Vancouver Central Library and many other notable locations in a walk around the city.
  • And don't forget to check out the live music. Vancouver has a lot going on!
