Abstract
The Fediverse has come a long way, but most platforms still center around a pretty narrow set of interaction patterns. Welley is an attempt to push that a bit further while staying fully compatible with
Mastodon, Lemmy, and other ActivityPub software.
In this talk, I will walk through how Welley approaches things like groups and channels as first-class actors instead of workarounds on top of user accounts. The goal is to make communities feel more
natural in the Fediverse without breaking compatibility with what already exists.
I will also introduce a new DID method being developed alongside Welley. This is an early attempt to rethink identity in the Fediverse, focusing on portability and long-term interoperability, while still
fitting into the current ecosystem.
Key Topics:
- Building ActivityPub software that plays nicely with Mastodon,
Lemmy, and others
- Groups and channels as real actors, not hacks
- Expanding the social graph beyond individuals
- A new DID method for federated identity
