Abstract
BadgeFed is an open-source digital badge platform that combines Open Badges and ActivityPub to bring credentials into the federated social web. In this talk, I’ll show how nonprofits and communities can issue, share, and verify badges without vendor lock-in using a self-hostable .NET application that runs on Linux. We’ll cover the architecture behind federated credentials, lessons learned building BadgeFed, and how decentralized recognition can make badges more portable, resilient, and community-owned.
