Speaker - Alissa Centivany

Associate Professor Alissa Centivany is a researcher in the Faculty of Information and Media Studies at Western University. Her primary investigative work centers on information policy, intellectual property, and the right to repair with a focus on the intersection of technology and law. She seeks to understand how legal frameworks, design choices, and social practices impact innovation, sustainability, and justice. Holding a Juris Doctor and a Doctorate in Information, she is co-founder of CanRepair and the Starling Centre for Just Technologies and Just Societies, is fellow at Massey College (UofT), is a core expert and co-chair of the AI Insights for Policymakers Program (Mila & CIFAR), and is an active member and research advisor to the Rotman Institute of Philosophy. She teaches courses on information ethics and managing information organizations.
